Like me, you might be a sensitive entrepreneur. You might get a little sensitive about criticism. It’s something that I’ve been working on for years. And I can honestly say I’ve gotten much, much better at it. As an entrepreneur, I’ve realized that good feedback will only help your business for a time before it loses its value. Since I’ve acted on my entrepreneurial spirit, I have found two reasons why having negative feedback is good for your business.

 

1. Improve your business.

With negative feedback, you know exactly what you need to do to upgrade your business. It’s an opportunity to improve your product or service. Or it’s an opportunity to decide exactly the kind of business you want. Until you are firm about what you want to offer, any feedback will cause you to sway in your business decisions.

 

2. Great customer service.

A couple of years ago, I was shopping online for a computer plug. During my search, I stumbled upon one that had semi-good reviews. As I was reading the bad reviews, I noticed that a reviewer had gone back to comment on his previous review. He mentioned that the company had read his bad review and had sent him a new product with a written apology on his bad experience. Did I buy from this company? You betcha! A company that’s willing to meet their customers’ needs when they’ve fallen short is one with which I want to be involved.

Take a lesson from them. Instead of shying away from criticism or putting your head in the sand when you’ve fallen short of your customers expectations, ask them questions. Be honest and straightforward.

    On my customer satisfaction survey in answer to the question “If you were in charge of my business, what’s one thing you would change?” I received a comment telling me that I need to show more confidence because I obviously know what I’m doing. At first this comment was a little hurtful. The more I thought about it though, the more empowered I felt to be bold in situations working with and for my clients. So I’m grateful that I received that feedback. It has helped
    me be a better real estate agent.

      I completely understand, Fonda! It’s hard to look beyond the hurt feelings to the help negative feedback could give us. I admire that you were able to. And congrats on making your clients feel like you know what you’re doing. Thanks for sharing.
